SENIOR CHAT

Relax and enjoy light refreshments with a lively 55+ group for gays and lesbians. Like to talk? Like to listen? Make new friends? Discuss your likes and dislikes? Find someone to share plans with? Break isolation and find activities of interest and personal benefit by sharing (chatting). Explore local coffee shops, visit art galleries and share a movie together. Senior Chat differs from other Center discussion groups in that activities of common interest with a “getting to know you” atmosphere are planned. Both lesbian and gay participation is encouraged. (Every Friday)

GAY PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

This drop-in support group is specifically for gay men who are dealing with prostate cancer. Whether you are newly diagnosed, currently in treatment, or a long time survivor, we need each other. Caring is sharing. Partners are welcome. (Second and fourth Tuesday)

GLBT ESTATE PLANNING WORKSHOP – ARE YOU PROTECTED?

Deb L. Kinney of BVH Law Group, LLP will host this workshop. Learn about important estate planning tools for members of the GLBT community. It’s the new year and the perfect time to make sure that you and the ones you love are protected. This free seminar is offered by an estate-planning attorney with an active practice in San Francisco as well as here in the desert. You will learn about minimizing gift and estate tax, living trusts, durable powers of attorney, healthcare directives and living wills, registered domestic partnership and different ways to leave a legacy. Refreshments will be served.

CALIFORNIA MEN’S GATHERING

An educational non-profit (501c-3) organization for men who want to explore issues related to “being a man in today’s world” in a safe space. There are three CMG Gatherings held each year, each at a campground or conference facility for 100-300 men, in California. Details can be found on the CMG website at http://www.thecmg.org. The CMG of the Desert is a local group that provides a place for men to come, ask questions, make friendships, mentor other men, or just relax and “be.” This is an opportunity for men in the desert to experience the kind of men and magic you will experience at our larger Gatherings. CREATIONS

ART OPENING FOR PAUL MAGLOFF

This is a special show featuring a wide variety of artwork by Paul Magloff. Paul has extensive training and life experience which is reflected in his art. He was a professional dancer, a Haute Couture fashion designer, a ceramic artist, a sculptor, and painter. Paul designed and painted three of the Big Horn Sheep seen at popular sites around the Valley. This exhibition will feature his fashion designs, hand-made purses, ceramics and paintings. The Center receives a commission from the sale of all artwork. The reception is free and refreshments will be served. The show will be on display from February 18 to March 15. INTRO WORKSHOP TO MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator)

This workshop is given by Jeanne Bourgeois to increase your self-awareness and your understanding of basic personality differences and how those differences influence our behavior. If you have ever had similar questions about your actions and those of the people you know, then the understanding of personality styles through the MBTI workshop is for you! Cost per person is $100 for DPC members, $110 for non-members. This class will be limited to 24, with a minimum of 12. Two workshops are scheduled February 18, and March 18, 2006. Pre-registration and payment is required prior to February 13. A questionnaire that takes approximately 15-20 minutes must be completed. If time permits, participants should fill it in while at DPC and then return it to the volunteer on duty. Packets will include instructions for completing the MBTI. Participants are strongly encouraged to complete the questionnaire while at DPC to save themselves the extra trip of returning packets to DPC. Please contact the Desert Pride Center at (760) 327-2313 to sign up.

This fundraiser for the Desert Pride Center is one that you won’t want to miss!! Come join us for a fun evening of bingo with Bingo-Boy and the fabulous drag queen Belle Aire. Terrific prizes! Reservations are not needed. Just show up and get there early for good seats. There is no admission charge, but bingo cards can be purchased at the event.

This 90-minute interactive workshop facilitated by Michael Carbine will help people navigate the challenges and adventures of redirecting their professional or social lives. It will give you the practical tools and motivation you need to explore your opinions, create a plan, and get started on making the second half of your life every bit as rich, productive, and rewarding as the first half.
